hi all, this morning my lifedrive locked up, it would not power down or do anything. i started off by doing a soft reset, thid did nothing it just froze on the palmone splash screen. i then tried a hard reset and its been stuck on the same screen all day. it`s showing an almost blank screen except across the top of the screen there is a blue band with the words "secure erase" in about 6 different languages. the orange h/d light is on all the time. it`s been stuck like this for abut 8hrs now and nothing i do will change it. has anybody any ideas on how to cure this problem or is it what i suspect and the units broke. thanks in advance......lestat

Hi Lestat. I read your post and am including a link regarding your LifeDrive. The link discusses, “Handheld appears broken; what to do before requesting help Palm.” Go to this link:

    I hope this helps.

You are screwed. I had the same problem and I finally gave up and sent my LD back to palm for repair. It`s not a 3rd party software problem. The LD has some type of internal error that cannot be interrupted.
I would recommend to everyone NOT to buy this piece of crap. Palm doesn`t seem interested in addressing the problem with this $500 boat anchor.

Tracie, I don`t work for palm... I just like my Lifedrive because it`s so neat that I can forgive it`s problems.
I think that the OS cannot be expected to account for what many times is bad programming from the software makers. If you know about programming, you would know that there is no universal "escape sequence" and the OS can`t anticipate everything.
I never had any problems with epocrates, but I only sync via cradle/cable. I do know that the Livedrive has issues with many wireless sync stuff from all sorts of programs, like avantgo. If you really want it, just sync with cradle/cable.
This is what I say about patience -- I`m willing to compromise with my lifedrive, if it doesn`t like certain thing, I just don`t use said thing.
Heheh, you`re comment about "boat anchor" made me laugh.

I am having the same problem. I have tried everything and nothing is working. My warranty period is over. I am very dissatisfied with the LifeDrive and wish I would have bought a Pocket PC.
Does anyone know how to do the hard reset yet? I get stuck on the multi-language screen and nothing happens. It will not reset.

thanks for the reply...it has frozen during a hard reset so according to the link i think a repair could be required. nothing i seem to do is able to get it to do anything. it`s only just over a month old so i`m pretty annoyed about it. but perhaps a phonecall to tech support next week might help(still got the free occasion call). thanks for the help given and if anybody has got any ideas please shout up.

I personally have had bad experiences with the scandisk products. Just my opinion though.

Yes, yes.....people seem to be jumping off the palm products like rats off a burning ship lately.

I have the same problem as NickPreston, have been to the Palm site, performed soft, system and hard resets, have no third party applications other than UltraSoft Money, and nothing works. I also have dowloaded all available updates from Palm.
I purchased my first LifeDrive in June and the above problem occurred in October. I had a forward exhange warranty agreement with the store where I purchased the LifeDrive and got a new unit at no cost at the time. Last Tuesday, the same thing happened to the second unit. I happened to look at the LifeDrive--the orange light was on and the unit was stuck on the "Pa1mOne" screen.
I discussed my situation with another LifeDrive user and the only thing that we could think of is that I prefer to use the LifeDrive in drive mode to copy files vs. the LifeDrive Manager. Could that have anything to do with the problem?
I love the LifeDrive when it works--it fits my needs perfectly. Does anyone have any suggestions other than what we`ve all evidently already tried? I`m waiting for my second exchange and would like to avoid this again. I also find it interesting that it worked for almost exactly three months both times.
    Thanks.
