After I don`t know how many years, I am still using and loving my Vadem Clio Handheld and have had no problems (other then its painfully slow on graphics on the Internet) in any way with the Unit. I ended up getting the third one ever produced and was sad when they went under as its such a neat (and cool looking) unit. As far as I am concerned, when its in the Tablet mode, it was one of the first Tablets ever made and even people that have the Tablet PC`s seem to like it sometimes even over ther own much more advanced Tablets.
So is anyone still around that has (had) a Clio ? We used to have a good number of very active forums, but they all seem to have slipped away a few years ago.
Thanks !

Was Scott`s post a figment of my imagination? Did this forum crop up to tease me?
I longed for a clio for so long.. then got some from ebay. I just found this site and this thread while looking for ways to update it.
For those looking to get one... I had a clio 1000 before, and now I own a clio 1050. The 1050 is _vastly_ superior, have not doubt. It has more memory, true but that isnt the extent of it. The processor is over 2x faster, and the video hardware was improved. The 1050 has 65k colors where the 1000 only had 256, beyond that it actually displays much faster as well.
Well Im hoping to reinvigorate this thread.. but I have to go for the moment, Ill post more of the information Ive collected here tonight.
Glad to see that theres still enthusiasts out there.
Hello all. I`ve had a couple of these sitting around for awhile that I wished I could get working. Scott, you are the person I need to talk to!
I am very interested in a travel dock, stylus, the 32mb upgrade and
1 CD "Desktop Software for Microsoft Windows CE (certificate of authenticity attached)
1 CD "Microsoft Entertainment Pack 2.0 for Windows CE" (CE key on case)
Please let me know some prices and I`ll see if we can deal, Thanks!
..going way back someone mentioned their opinion on what the best wireless card is for a clio. I havent tried that many different ones, but I know mine is fairly high on the list as well. Im currently writing this using a dlink dcf-650w.
This is a compact flash basd wireless card. This thing works great. The main improvement over using a pccard based wireless card is that a CF one tends to use much less battery power to run. I can run this thing for almost 3 hours with this card.
Another thing that Im finding is very cool.. as long as Im running wirelessly on my network anyway. Im using RDP (remote desktop protocol) and even more recently citrix ICA and sometimes VNC. They let me play on my clio just like Im on my bigger computer.. only I can sit outside or whatever.. Its totally sweet..
So far I like citrix the best. RDP is limited to 256 colors with the version available on clios. So if you have a clio 1000 I imagine it might work out fine.. though the slow graphics there might kill it. Citrix can do any color set, and is really fast. I can easily view flash animations.. cant quite get full video with sound.. but its 802.11b after all.
I do have a `dock` adapter.. but Im always worried it might break. If anyone ever does come up with a serial adapter design Id love to hear about it.
I didnt expect you to take it apart, but thank you very very much!
that is everything that I need to get this going! If there is anything you need that I can help with, please let me know!
Again, THANK YOU!
Long live the Clio!

i was wondering has anybody out there has open the back of a vadem clio c-1000 model to change the coin cell battery yet. its getting frustrating right now so i can do this myself if any body done it before thanx scottom for your help. dang.
Hi again Cyman,
One thing that I forgot to say is that whatever PCMCIA card you are using, you should try it out in something else as the problem might be the card and not the Clio, the old Clio (which people always comment on and ask if its one of the new tablets) is a pretty rugged machine both hardware and software.
On the PCMCIA drivers, I need to do a little looking on that one and check out my own. Vadem did release a new set of drivers for the C1000 as many people (like me) that where not happy with the slow internal 33.6 modem and then tried a PCMCIA 56 kbps modem and it was exactly the same speed or if you used one of the higher speed Lexar memory cards, that did not work either. I got the drivers from Vadem, do not remember if I downloaded them or not ? As far as telling if they are corrupt or not. That is not as easy. You would need a list of the drivers along with the size, if the size is wrong or you cannot get the info part to work on the files, then most likely they are bad. The only thig is most of the drivers are burned into ROM, so there is no way to chage them. However Vadem did load some of them into RAM to make the PCMCIA interface work better. As far as new drivers, you have two choices either keep the same name or rename them, but you do have to go into the registry and tell it not to look on ROM for the bad ones. Its not really hard once you can identify which ones they are. I will fire up my Clio and get the list of them and post it here or email you or if you do not hear from me, send me a email as life right now for me is a bit of a mess as we just took my Mom off life support, so I am heading down to see her often in Santa Fe, NM (I am in Redmond, WA)
Off the subject.....think I noticed you are in Canada. Are you on the "right side or left side" or french or not french [Emoticon not found] I go up to BC alot and love the area, but also like Ottawa alot too.
So if I have the good files, I can just email them to you, I think its only two files that run the PCMCIA port, so its easy to chage them around. Have you tried a cold reboot ? Not the soft one that you can do by pushing in the restart button. Also let me know what kind of PCMCIA card you are using, (ir Memory, Modem, Wireless etc.....) and did the card ever work in the Clio ? There are certain kinds of cards that will not work unless you added some software to make it work. The memory cards and Modems all worked fine, most of the LAN cards and wireless needed the right drivers as the stock system did not include them.
Yeah I sure was sad when Vadem shut down the Clio ! Its such a awesome little PC and I love the style of it, plus they were about to come out with a Windows 98 version of it the same size. I look at the Clio against the new rage around here, the Tablet PC which are around $2500-3000 and think how much better my Clio works then the pricey tablets ! Its also kinda funny as I live about 1/2 mile from Microsoft and am over there often and whenever I pull out my Clio, I always get a ton of questions about "what is that ??"
Also just in case, if you need them, I have a fair amount of spare parts for the Clio. When I heard they were dropping making PC, I bought a couple of extra batteries (I still am using the original one), some extra memory and I think I still have two AC adapters. Now of course nothing has ever failed on the Clio..but if you need something, let me know and I might have it as I saw one person on Ebay selling the battery for $145 ! I paid $35 for mine.
Anyway, guess my short answer to you ran into a long one. Glad my girlfriend does not read these forums, she is always bugging me for long emails......oh well. Sometimes (most times..) the Clio is far easier to figure out the she is [Emoticon not found]
Talk with you later eh ?
