Palm »   Can`t Sync - CoCreateInstance Error???

    We have a program called Amicus Advanced Edition which keeps our appointments, calendar & contacts. The first time we synced with our Palm M515 and Amicus, it worked fine. However, it has completely stopped working. We contacted Palm and they can`t figure it out. Also, we have Windows XP. Here is the log of the error we are getting:

    Hi Rico,
    Thanks for the reply. I don`t know whether you noticed or not, but I posted this problem in 2003. I have this forum set up to notify me by email of any replies. If I remember correctly, Amicus had sent me a patch for the conduits and then it worked fine. However, I am going to print out your solution in case I have the problem again and can`t get it fixed. I really wish they made these 2 programs work better with each other.
    You might want to contact Amicus and ask them to email you the conduit patch (it`s a zip file), or post back here and I can send it to you.

    Amicus claims there is no resolution, so I`ll certainly try this

    Let me guess, this error happened all of a sudden right? One day it’s working fine, the next day you get FFFF.
    The problem is started by your Amicus Appointments conduit. An error occurs when it tries to sync events that are All Day events or Multiple Day events. The conduit is usually set to sync the Palm to events from 1 week ago to 7 weeks from now. The error occurs when either:
    1. You recently create an all/multiple day event to take place within the next 7 weeks. The very next time you try to sync you will get the error. OR
    2. You create an all/multiple day event now to take place more than 7 weeks from now. The next sync will run fine, and it will keep running fine until the dreaded day comes when the event is 7 weeks away.
    Solution: go into Amicus and edit the event from “All day event lasting …” to anything (say 9am-5pm). If it’s a multiple day event, go to the repeat module to repeat the event up until a certain day. DO NOT use the “Up to # occurrences,” as this event will repeat indefinitely in your palm after the next sync.
    If that don’t work, you’ll have to start from scratch:
    1. Get your installation disks for both Amicus and your Palm device. If you install Amicus from a local server, this will work too. If you don’t have the CD but can download all necessary software from Palm’s website, you should be all set.
    2. Uninstall the Amicus Conduits.
    3. Uninstall Amicus. CAUTION: This step assumes that the data (Contacts, Calendar, Cases, To Do’s, etc.) are safe on a server or another computer. Skip this step if uninstalling Amicus also deletes your data.
    4. Backup any data you want to keep from the Palm device to the PC.
    5. Uninstall Palm desktop and any software that came with it.
    6. Use your Windows Explorer and search for any folders with “Amicus” or “Palm” in the title and delete them. You may need to also search for the manufacturer of the device, in our case “Sony.” CAUTION: Obviously don’t delete the backup folder you just created. Again skip this step if your amicus data is saved on your computer
    7. Reboot the PC.
    8. Do a Hard Reset on the Palm Device.
    9. Insert the Palm CD and re-install all previous software.
    10. Connect the device and run a HotSync to identify user and make sure the sync works.
    11. Reboot the PC.
    12. Insert the Amicus CD or run the installation from your local server.
    13. Check for updates, if any.
    14. Reboot the PC.
    15. Close the HotSync Manager by right-clicking it’s icon near the clock and clickin “Exit”
    16. Log into Amicus.
    17. Install the Amicus conduits. DO NOT log out of Amicus.
    18. Once the conduits are installed, Open the HotSync Manager (probably in your Start Menu).
    19. Right-click the Manager Icon near the clock and click on “Custom…”
    20. Switch all unused conduits to “Do Nothing” especially any non-Amicus conduits that have to do with Contacts, Calendar or ToDo’s as they may be conflicting with the Amicus conduits. To do this, double click the unused conduits and click the “Do Nothing” bullet. I recommend you click the “Default” checkbox so Palm doesn’t switch it back later on.
    21. Close the Custom window.
    22. FINAL RECHECK BEFORE 1st TRY:
    a. Reopen the custom window and insure conduits are as you set them. Sometimes they switch back.
    b. Close the custom window. Sometimes the HotSync freezes when you sync with the Custom window open.
    c. Are you still logged into Amicus? If so, then you are ready to proceed.
    23. From your Palm device, run the HotSync.
    24. Pray to God.
    If the HotSync takes longer than 60 seconds, it’s working.
    If not, starting from step 20, switch all non-Amicus conduits to “Do Nothing” and all Amicus conduits to “Desktop overrides handheld.” Close the Custom Window and run the sync again.
